The Stories Behind the Stories Series 2 Invitation

Hey everyone,

I have just been invited to do a second season of "The Stories Behind the Stories" on "The Geek Speak Show" podcast radio show. Most of the original 10 episodes have aired on the show and the first few have been placed for your listening pleasure on my website: http://funideas.50webs.com with more to be added soon.

Once again, I need people to be interviewed that are in the comic book and animation industries. The segment will be approximately 5-10 minutes long and will just be a basic overview of what you are currently doing or what you have done, with no really probing stuff (unless you want to reveal that about yourself). Interviews will be conducted via telephone or Skype or could even be done in person if you are in the San Francisco Bay Area.

For this second set of interviews, please let me know ASAP if you are available on Saturday, February 2nd between the hours of 10am-2pm PST. Please confirm your phone number and if you have Skype, please let me know that as well. My cell phone number is (408) 482-9327 if you have any questions and the website for the show is http://www.thegeekspeakshow.com

Also, if you were interviewed for the first set, I thank you very much. I don't plan to do repeat interviews yet, so if you could be so kind as to pass this message along to someone who you think would or could be interviewed and have them contact me.

And, Walter Brogan, I have you penciled in for this second set, so I will need nine more volunteers.

Finally, if you are available for an interview, but not that day, please let me know that as well. We may be able to make a separate schedule for that, but it is easier to record everyone on the same day.

Thank you in advance for your help!

My Article on Back Issue 59 on Sale Now

I'm proud of my latest article about the history of Hanna-Barbera comics as published by Marvel from 1977-1979. It's 10 pages long and has interviews, original art and a complete index and who's who list. Pick it up at your local comic book store. If you can't find one, let me know and I'll help you out.

Consortium Horror Photos

We had another comic book consortium meeting this past weekend at my friend, Jerry Boyd's house. I snapped a few photos of some monster-related collectibles and rarities that I do not own.

Rare Mark Arnold Bathroom Art

When my parents purchased their current home in 1978, they did a lot of remodeling. At the time, they used a lot of wallpaper instead of paint. 35 years later, a lot of the wallpaper was getting kind of dingy, so my dad removed it. I knew that I had drawn on the walls before he papered it, so before he covered it up again with paint, I decided to snap some photos of artwork I did at age 12. Pretty decent Cat in the Hat if I say so myself.

Comic Book Consortium Photos

Here are some photos of me with some highly collectible items I saw at Dick Swan's house this past Saturday. Not all of these items are his. It's what people in our little comic book group brought over. So, here's me with a painted Looney Tunes comic, me with The Beatles butcher cover, a Marvel Comics piece of stationery with many signatures, some Cat-Man comic books, and both sides of a postcard sent out to readers of Famous Monsters #1. All very interesting and very rare stuff!

Total TeleVision Art Commission

I ordered and paid for this art commission quite awhile ago from artist Patrick Owsley, who had other pressing commitments before he could get to it, but this was worth the wait. I wanted a piece similar to his Hanna-Barbera piece with the heads of the major players who starred in their cartoons. As you can see there's Underdog, Tennessee Tuxedo, Tooter Turtle, Commander McBragg, etc. Thanks, Patrick!

Comic Books on "Car 54, Where Are You?"

I was watching Season 2 of "Car 54, Where Are You?" and on the episode entitled "Benny the Bookie's Last Chance", there is a comic book spinner near the end of the episode. This episode also features guest appearances from Gerald Hiken and Margaret Hamilton. On image one below, the man is reading a "Fox and the Crow" #77 (January 1963) comic book. On the spinner rack (which clearly states "Educational Fawcett Books"), you can see "Donald Duck" #85 (December 1962), "Sad Sack and the Sarge" #35 (February 1963) and "Fightin' Army"#50 (January 1963). On the second image, you can also see the corner of "Mighty Mouse" #157 (January 1963) and "Little Audrey and Melvin" #5 (January 1963)!

This is my girlfriend, Tara's dog named Farley! He's an Airedale Terrier. Isn't he cute?

Birdies Have Grown!

Here are the birds now a couple weeks after the last post. They almost have outgrown the nest. All four are alive and healthy!
